Gigi Goode, Matt Ox, and Coucou Chloe Walk in CamperLab’s First-ever Runway Show

Creative director Achilles Ion Gabriel presented spiky sneakers, as well as a unisex ready-to-wear collection as an extension of the brand's experimental core.

PARIS – Under creative director Achilles Ion Gabriel, CamperLab – a younger, more experimental range by the Spanish label – has been expanding into new categories with the hope of becoming a well-rounded fashion label.

The brand’s first-ever runway show, held in a car park during Paris men’s fashion week on Thursday, was about trying to bring that vision to life. A new logo and monogram were introduced as part of the effort.

The setup of the show resembled a night club in Berlin, with dim light, smokes, and a soundtrack by Pandora’s Jukebox blasting on speakers.

The ready-to-wear offering looked like a character study, in a sense that it was more about who wore it instead of what was being worn.

The casting stayed true to CamperLab’s experimental ethos.

CamperLab cast a wide array of characters, from street cast talents to cultural new guards, such as the Berlin-based music artist Lia Lia, Rupaul’s Drag Race star Gigi Goode, American rapper Matt Ox, French music producer Coucou Chloe, Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt, and actress Raya Martigny, who closed the show in brushed jeans and a leather jacket done in a similar fashion.

The footwear was eye catching, especially a spiky sneaker model with the underfoot embedded in the soles. The red crocodile-embossed cowboy boots looked fiery as well.
